Occhipinti Frappato

Occhipinti Frappato 2007

region:  vittoria, sicily
soil type:  calcareous rock, limestone
vinified in: stainless steel
aged in: neutral barrel

a few words:  while Arianna's vineyards are in the DOCG of Cerasuolo di Vittoria her wine is not a DOCG wine because she has decided to go renegade and make a 100% frappato wine.  the DOCG rules dictate that a wine in the commune must be made with frappato AND nero d'avola to be DOCG status.  true to her nature she is bucking tradition.

tasting notes:  this 100% Frappato has a core of strawberry and raspberry fruit, complimented by herbs, flowers, black tea, salt and minerals. with only 12.5% alcohol, you will be left wondering why more Sicilian wines aren't like this. eat it up with pasta arrabiatta!

meet the winemaker

Arianna Occhipinti
The young and talented Arianna Occhipinti, from the ever-famous DOCG zone of Cerasuolo di Vittoria produces elegant and ethereal reds, based strictly on regional grapes. Her production is completely natural (organic/biodynamic), wines undergo a long maceration/fermentation with all natural yeasts. The connection between vineyard and cellar work is one of the defining reasons as to why her wine is so compelling, or it could be her fiery disposition and mischievous nature?
