Massarosa Frascati Superiore 2010

Unlike some of our super geeked-out wine choices, this is our super loved-out choice. Rome. A city unlike any other in our minds. And what makes us weak in the knees? The thought of an alfresco afternoon in The Eternal City with a glass of Frascati and a plate of Carciofi alla Giudia. So, from a place located at the bottom of our hearts we bring you a drink for the seasonal change and to reminisce about this summer past.

Easy drinking, snappy and crisp Massarosa's Frascati is made up of 30% of Trebbiano, 40% of Malvasia di Candia and 30% Malvasia di Lazio. The grapes are planted in the volcanic rock surrounding Rome and within the Frascati DOC. Fermented in stainless steel and left on the lees for about one month this Frascati gives you all the simplicity and structure a quaffer like this can give.

And well, here it is. It's raining all week and you need a little sunshine in your life. Pull some Frascati from the fridge and enjoy some nice crisp citrusy + easy drinking wine and think about those delicious artichokes you ate until you couldn't breathe anymore.

meet the town

Frascati
is a town and comune in the province of Rome in the Lazio region of central Italy. It is located 20 kilometres (12 mi) south-east of Rome, on the Alban Hills close to the ancient city of Tusculum. Frascati is closely associated with science, being the location of several international scientific laboratories.

It has also been the playground of fabulously named Roman's such as Lucullus, Gaius Sallustius Crispus Passienus, Agrippina the Younger (mother of Nero), Consul Flavius Clemens, Domitilla, Pope Innocent III, Pope Pius II and the we've only made it to the 1460s.

The name of the city probably comes from a typical local tradition of collecting firewood ("frasche" in Italian)—many place-names around the town refer to trees or wood. After the destruction of nearby Tusculum in 1191, the town's population increased and the bishopric moved from Tusculum to Frascati.

More importantly it is covered in ornate and beautiful Villas from where one must sip of the Frascati and mull over the obelisks of Rome below.
