Salice Salentino "Pezzo Morgana" 2005
Just before Central Bottle opened we sat down and tasted with Alfredo Falvo of Masseria Li Veli. We tasted through the wineries three wines - primitivo, a negroamaro IGT and finally their Salice Salentino. We were enchanted and delighted by the delicious and hearty Salice. So enchanted we bought 60 cases of it! It tastes and smells of the holidays and we're not just saying that to schlep off our big purchase - its really really good... And at the end of the day that's what matters, right?

100% negroamaro
the vines are bush trained and planted in a fashion referred to as "settonce" - a beehive pattern that maximizes the plants access to the elements. it produces a healthy, "happy" plant that ultimately creates great grapes. 2005 produced a beautiful wine with deep ruby red color with violet hues, it has a full and persistent nose of stewed prune and cherry; notes of cracked pepper; medium-full body; on the palate, warm and radiant, flavors of pulpy fruit with structure and concentration; a long finish with scents of raisins and almonds.
