Li Veli Negroamaro Rosato 2010

For an Italian, this wine finds itself on the lighter side of the often dark rosatos that exist - especially in The South. In fact, a quote from the winery is this: This wine is made with Negroamaro grapes and is generally known as a ‘one night wine’, not because of its quaffability, but because of the short maceration time on the skins. Thus it comes a lovely pale salmon in colour, mildly fragrant, fresh fruit (ripe plums, even strawberry) on the palate, delicious and very versatile.

Its light color and even lighter raspberry flavors and freshness confuse you a bit as the grape, negroamaro, makes you think it would be dense and dark. We contribute that lively balance to the settonce system and to the delicate hand of Paolo Trappolini, the winemaker. The Li Veli rosato is perfect for a die-hard Provence rose drinker to even consider Italy as a country that makes great rose (because they do!).

Settonce
the vines are bush trained and planted in a fashion referred to as "settonce" - a beehive pattern that maximizes the plants access to the elements. it produces a healthy, "happy" plant that ultimately creates great grapes. in this case, li veli primonero is half primitivo trained settonce and half negroamaro trained settonce which basically comes down to one thing: simply good drinkin'.
