The Boca Region: Le Piane + Antonio Ceri

We have highlighted these wines because they tell a wonderful story.  The early vintages are from the winemaker Antonio Ceri and the vintages from 1998 to present are from Christoph Kunzli - his student. Christoph found Antonio's wines in the cellar and bottled them to learn more about Boca and his approach, but thanks to two tenacious importers, we in Boston, are the only other audience to be able to taste Antonio's wines. They have traveled to no other country, or state in the US, for that matter.

As the video states, the region of Boca was going to disappear, but somehow Christoph Kunzli met Antonio Ceri and the beautiful vineyards of Le Piane are not forest land today. There are a whopping four producers in Boca now, up from the one - Antonio Ceri. Antonio Ceri's wines, in his lifetime, only made it 5 miles away from their cellar to a 1-star Michelin Restaurant called Finocchio.

As you may surmise, we have some of these awesome wines in our shop, but our stock is dwindling.  We currently have 1984, 1985, 1987 and 1989 of Antonio's wines and 2001 and 2004 of Christoph's in the shop.  We will continue to have access to Christoph's wines, but Antonio's wines will vanish from the US when the last bottle is sold. It was just too interesting and too awesome to pass up this opportunity.

Both Le Piane and Antonio Ceri (all vintages)   $60 a bottle
